Long Distance Calling Instuctions

Administrative:

To place all long distance phone calls, please follow the steps outlined below.

  • State or National bound call
    • Dial 8 + 1 + area code + 7-digit telephone number
  • International bound call
    • Dial 8 + international access code + country code + city code + local telephone number

It is suggested that personal long distance calls be placed using a readily available calling card from a long distance vendor with a toll free access number and PIN code. Unauthorized persons should not be allowed access to MSU telephones.

Reporting Trouble:

MSU Telecommunication Systems manages all long distance calling that is routed through the Centrex. Please contact us with a detailed description of your problem if you experience any difficulty when calling off campus. Include an itemized list of times and telephone numbers dialed to assist in solving your problem.

Billing:

All long distance calls are identified and billed to the departmental account assigned to the Centrex telephone number from which the call originated.

Directory Assistance Charges:

Use of a long distance carrier or local telephone company for direct dial directory assistance is discouraged due to a dramatic increase in costs for this type of service. These high costs are passed along to the departmental account assigned to the Centrex telephone number from which the call originated. Instead, please take advantage of free web-based dircectories available from SBC or AT&T.
